My name is Joey Lax-Salinas and I am a Northwest Indiana professional photographer and video producer, specializing in aerial photography, commercial photography, scenic photography, weather photography, wedding photography and more! As a photographer in Northwest Indiana, I see beauty in everything around me. From the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore to the abandon buildings and urban decay in Gary, Indiana, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I see something I like, I capture it through my lens and then share it with the world.

I was born in Northwest Indiana, growing up in Hammond, IN during my childhood and teenage years. Today, I am a proud business owner living near my hometown in nearby Saint John, IN, about 30 minutes outside of Chicago. My interest in photography actually began with my interest in video production. I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications (Class of 2003) and concentrated in Video Design and Production. In 2003, I worked with the Indiana University Department of Telecommunications and their student documentary team, lead by Professor Ron Osgood, to produce a video for John Mellencamp called Trouble No More: The Making of a John Mellencamp Album. The production team spent over a month filming at Mellencamp’s recording studio and later produced the hour long video which went on to win a Cleveland Regional Emmy Award for Best Entertainment Music Special. The DVD can be purchased on Amazon.com and I am credited at the end as a Production Assistant.

Shortly after graduation, my desire to travel led me to buy my first DSLR camera and it all began from there. Nearly a decade later, I am traveling the country with camera in tow. My desire to photograph has taken me to nearly every state in the United States and numerous cities, landmarks, national parks and other notable locations. I have photographed many weddings in Northwest Indiana, each of which was an honor and a pleasure to do and today I still occasionally book Northwest Indiana weddings, however, these days as I find myself busier than ever and traveling more than ever. My focus is mainly on commercial photography and scenic photography. As a professional photographer in NW Indiana, I find limitless photo opportunities allowing me to capture the culture and artistic beauty of what the Northwest Indiana community along the south shore holds. I enjoy finding the not-so-common places in Northwest Indiana and photographing and writing about the disappearing relics of yesteryear.

As a Northwest Indiana resident living near a large Midwest city, I can’t help but to love the photography opportunities in an urban setting like Chicago. Beyond my own local geographic area, I also enjoy traveling across the country and photographing what I see as I pass through. I have driven through forty-three states including the far reaches of the northeast at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine to the tropical Florida Keys at the southern most point. I enjoy seeing the United States while on the road, sampling the local flavors as I pass through and meeting locals along the way!
