The downtown Traverse City Front Street District makes up several blocks of Front Street and includes many stores and shops, restaurants, bars, the State Theater, and more. The Front Street District is located just south of the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. The Boardman River runs behind the buildings on the north end of the Front Street District and boating and docking is permitted between the mouth of the river through the downtown district.
This is a photo of a Western Lowland Gorilla named ‘Kwan’ who currently (as of fall 2013) resides at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois. Kwan is a popular gorilla, having been in several movies while also being the featured Silverback Gorilla at the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Deep River County Park is located along Old Lincoln Highway just north of US 30 in Merrillville, Indiana and is a part of the Lake County Parks Department in Northwest Indiana. This is a historic site that dates back to the mid 1800s when settlers traveled along the Sauk Trail heading to Chicago and Joliet from the east. Deep River was a small independent town in its day long before incorporating into much of the eastern portion of Merrillville. In this photo, a historic grist mill is water powered and is still active today. There are many other historic structures and areas within the park, including a sugar shack used to make maple sugar.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located in northern lower Michigan west of Traverse City along the shores of Lake Michigan. This photo was taken in August 2013 along one of the hiking trails in the park. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park is known for its dunes and other glacial formations, fauna, wildlife, hiking trails, kayaking, birding and more.
